Denmark
Motorvej (Motorways,
Freeways)
It is mandatory to use the indicators when you change lane on the motorvej.
It is mandatory to use hazard lights if you are the last car in a queue on
the motorvej.
Breaking your journey
Danish motorvej services (known as lay-bys) as well equipped. Overnight
parking is allowed, but not camping.
Click here for a list of Danish lay-bys.
Petrol (Gasoline)
Petrol stations that are not in large towns often close overnight. Automatic
pumps are often found that accept 100kr notes. All types of fuel are
available: unleaded (blyfri benzin), superunleaded (super benzin), diesel (dieselolie)
and LPG.
Law enforcement
Mobile phones can only be used if hands-free.
Speeding laws are rigorously implemented. Radar traps are common and the
police can impose on the spot fines.
Speed Limits - see our
speed converter

Open Road - 90 kmh
Town - 50 kph
Minimum age for car drivers
18 (even if you legally hold a license at a younger age in your country it

category of vehicle you are in b) either the owner of the vehicle or that
you have a owner's permission to drive c) insured. Licenses must be

unless your license plate has the sticker pre-applied.

Right-hand drive cars must be adapted using headlight deflectors before you
can drive in Denmark. Dipped headlights must be used at all times, even in
daylight. Spare bulbs are recommended.
Warning triangle
Warning triangles are recommended.
Alcohol
The blood alcohol limit is very low at 0.25 milligrams of alcohol per litre
of blood (much lower than the UK at 0.4mg/l) so the simple advise is don't
drink and drive. See our guide to
maximum blood alcohol limits.
Seat belts
Seat belts must be worn front and rear.
Children
Children under 3 years of age must be secured with approved safety equipment
appropriate to the child's age, size and weight e.g. car seat or booster
seat.
Cyclists
Cycling is very popular in Denmark. Cyclists often have right of way. It is
particularly important that you check cycle lanes before turning right. You
must give due consideration to the many cyclists present in Danish cities.
